Compare your on-market performance fairly with relative benchmarks.

Here's how we've created four fundamental company cohorts that you can use as benchmarks to measure your relative performance against relevant peers. We utilise these cohorts in our market momentum service where we provide bespoke analysis for listed companies.

1. All Market

We start broad by taking the median values of the entire ASX. This benchmark is especially useful if you’ve had a strong few months.

Outperforming the entire market, especially in tough conditions, is a message your investors need to hear. If your company is doing better than 50% of the entire market, that’s a compelling story to share.

2. Market Cohort

Next, we refine the comparison by adding market cap conditions. For example, if you’re a $10M company, comparing yourself to similar-sized companies is a much more accurate benchmark than looking at the entire market.

This approach gives you a clearer picture of how you're performing against businesses of your scale. While this cohort includes all sectors, it still gives your investors a better frame of reference.

3. All Sector

Now, we take it a step further and look at your performance against your entire sector. This broad comparison is useful if you want to see how your company is faring against others in the same industry.

Even if the market cap varies, it helps you understand how your "micro factors" stack up against competitors with different resources and scale.

4. Sector Cohort

Finally, the most accurate benchmark: market cap and sector combined. If you’re a $10M biotech company, comparing yourself to similar-sized biotech firms gives you the most precise evaluation.

This benchmark eliminates outliers and focuses on the factors that matter to your company. It’s the fairest way to evaluate your position and determine where your business can improve.
