How to increase the impact of your webinars by 500%
As a listed leader, you've never got enough time. Here's a simple strategy to get more out of your next investor webinar for not extra effort.
Most of your investors don’t do it as a job.
They aren't professionals who spend all day watching the market or meeting with companies.
They're people like you and me, who have jobs, attend meetings, spend time with the family, or are retired. It's true, whether you're a $5m market cap with 300 shareholders or Westpac with 650,000 shareholders.
And it's genuinely important because we know the following facts about the market.
- 75% of all shares are bought by existing or returning investors.
- 72% of all shares are traded outside the top 20 (typically by people you don't know very well).
- The majority those trades are by people in the 'mid-register' (who sit between the top 20 and long tail, and influence the share price).
It's these people, the mid-register shareholders buying and selling at size, that we want to connect with, communicate with, and sell to the most.
And they're not available at 11AM on Tuesday, which is exactly when you scheduled your next webinar for. We need to give them an option that works for them.
Here's how to take the work we're already doing, hosting the webinar next Tuesday, and get it in front of more people with zero extra effort.
Give your shareholders an option that works for them.
A few months ago, we launched a new webinar feature at InvestorHub. It enables companies to schedule, host, and record their own webinars.
We now have enough data on people attending vs. viewing the recording to prove a long-held hypothesis: that more people will watch the webinar in their own time than attend it live.
On average, for every 10 people that attend a live webinar, 43 will watch the recording in the days following, for a total of 53 people. Giving them the option is great because it's hitting people when they have the time and energy to engage.
So here's how you take your existing webinar, hosted live on Tuesday, and get more views out of it with no additional time or effort.
- I highly recommend a video webinar over a call.
Everything from LinkedIn to TikTok serves video so it's what people expect. It gets you in front of more people and creates a connection, so lean in where you can. - You may as well record your webinar.
You're already doing the work so make sure it's recorded. That means you can continue to create value from it later, and most webinar tech supports this so it's easy to do. - Host it in a place you control (your website).
Don't put it on Youtube and send people there because now you can't control their engagement. Get the video up on your site, make it accessible, but in an environment you have control over. - Let the people know the recording exists.
Didn’t know about the webinar or have the time to attend? No worries - we recorded the whole thing and you can watch it when convenient for you. Reach out via email, put a social post up, and easily drive traffic. - Give an opportunity for follow-ups.
When your audience shows interest, encourage them to follow up with a question to keep the conversation going.
Doing these simple steps will get you in front of more and more investors.
Think back to your last webinar and how many people were there. 10 people? 20? 30?
Is it worth these extra steps to get the same great content out to an extra 50, 100, or 150 people?
I think it is.
